Spotlight on the Lunar Gold Coin

Australian Lunar Gold Coin

Australia’s Lunar Gold Coin series is a fun and valuable collection. It has been prized by collectors since it debuted, and it continues to increase in value as demand for the coins have increased. Should the Lunar Gold Coin series be part of your precious metal collection? Here is what you need to know.

History of the Lunar Gold Coin
The Lunar Gold Coin series was launched in 1996 by the Perth Mint. It is based on the characters in the Chinese zodiac. The first coin commemorated the Year of the Mouse. For each subsequent year, the Perth Mint released a new coin representing a new image, until a coin was available for each of the 12 Zodiac animals. Every coin in the series is 99.99 percent pure and is inscribed with an accurate measurement of its gold weight. Initially, four weights were offered in bullion format, and a three coin set was also available. In later years, the offerings were increased to include more bullion and coins, including 10 kg bullion, individual coins, high-relief proof coins, and colored coins.

Collector Benefits of the Lunar Gold Coin
California Numismatic Investments has identified several benefits of Lunar Gold Coins for investors. First, demand for the coins is increasing. This demand may skyrocket in the future, as China’s global reach expands and more people become aware of the coins. The minting of each coin in the series is very limited, which means increased demand will drive up prices quickly. Each year, the reverse of the coin is different, which traditionally increases investor interest and collectability. Lastly, these beautifully made coins make a striking addition to any collection.
