A Preview of Upcoming 2016 Coins

California Numismatic Investments

2016 is the Year of the Monkey, and to commemorate the occasion, there are many mints around the world planning to release gold and silver coins with monkeys on them. The Lunar calendar doesn’t actually start until the beginning of February, but a handful of these coins may already be available through your gold dealer. Check out several of the 2016 gold and silver coins for sale.

Perth Mint Lunar II Coins
Every year, the Perth Mint in Australia, which is one of the oldest mints in the entire world, releases its sought after Lunar II set featuring silver coins in a variety of sizes. In 2016, these coins will include a tribute to the Year of the Monkey. As always, it will be difficult to get your hands on this collection if you wait too long, so you should contact your silver and gold dealer right away to inquire about availability.

Niue Lunar Coins
While the Niue Lunar collection doesn’t necessarily have the history that the Perth Mint Lunar II collection does, it has become very popular amongst collectors. The set is minted by the PAMP manufacturer in Switzerland every year and is very limited with only 500 coins created. Each coin in this set is individually numbered, and the silver coins in the set weigh five ounces. This year’s collection will feature a monkey with a peach in its hand on the front of the coins.

U.S. Mint Mercury, Standing, and Walking Liberty Coins
While many of the coins released in 2016 will pay tribute to the Year of the Monkey, there will be other coins released as well. The U.S. Mint is considering paying homage to the year 1916 by creating gold coins designed to look like the 1916 Mercury dime, the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, and the 1916 Walking Liberty half-dollar.
